The larger chain stores line the Grote Houtstraat, whilst more singular, dedicated boutiques swarm the smaller streets that huddle around this area.<\/p>\n

Schagchelstraat, Anegang, Koningstraat, Gierstraat, Warmoestraat, Zijlstraat and Kleine Houtstraat all harbour some entirely exceptional shops. Thanks to their monument status and grand looks, these streets are affectionately known as the \u2018Golden Streets\u2019. <\/p>\n
The name refers to the Golden Age; a historic highpoint in Dutch trade and a period when Haarlem enjoyed the status of the Netherlands\u2019 most significant town.<\/p>\n

Kruisstraat is the first excellent shopping opportunity when walking from Haarlem Central Station to Haarlem\u2019s city heart. Although it\u2019s a through road with cars and bicycles, you will find a range of great places for coffee and a number of stylish clothing shops. <\/p>\n
These two streets morph into each other, hinging around the Gedempte Oude Gracht fulcrum. When visiting the Koningstraat don\u2019t forget to look skywards, these delightful fa\u00e7ades front no less than seventeen national monuments. One of these is the beautifully restored Huis van Schagen with its splendid courtyard garden. <\/p>\n
We reckon Warmoesstraat is one of the most attractive smaller streets. Irresistibly full of caf\u00e9 terraces and restaurants. Schagchelstraat features fun boutiques and quirky, individual shops. <\/p>\n
Shopping is a lively affair in Kleine Houtstraat and Anegang. Kleine Houtstraat is Haarlem\u2019s oldest street. Unlike the other five smaller streets, Zijlstraat is a grand, wide shopping precinct. This is the place to head for if you\u2019re looking for up market and fashionably branded items.<\/p>\n
