The exhibition ‘Photo League: New York 1936–1951’ showcases the work of photographers who captured everyday life in New York during a period of crisis and social inequality. They focused on marginalized groups and combined artistic quality with political awareness.

With innovative styles, they demonstrated how photography could contribute to social change. The Photo League, which included Berenice Abbott and Walter Rosenblum, ceased operations in 1951 after accusations during the McCarthy era. The exhibition tells their story, with photographs and documents, extensively in Europe for the first time.
