The Amsterdam Canal Race

The Amsterdam Canal Race has been a popular rowing competition through the center of Amsterdam since 1986, with classic wooden sloops sailing 25 km along the canals. The race starts with the slowest boats, which makes for exciting overtaking maneuvers, especially on narrow bends such as the Leliegracht.

With more than 140 participating teams, it is a challenging and spectacular event for both participants and spectators.

The event takes place along the public canals and is therefore completely free to watch and cheer on. The start is at the old Olympic Stadium between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., after which the teams can be seen in the city center from around noon.
