Less than 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam Central Station, you will find a lively beach, beautiful museums, and delicious places to eat. A perfect addition to your visit to Amsterdam! Don’t forget to visit Haarlem<\/strong><\/em><\/a> during your visit to Zandvoort.<\/p>\n

To the beach<\/h2>\n

Zandvoort of course means the beach: a leisurely walk, a paddle or even a plunge into the North Sea, or perhaps just lying on your towel soaking up the rays is more you. Maybe so, but Zandvoort has so much more to offer. Fun on the beach of course includes visiting one of the many beach pavilions and caf\u00e9s for something delicious to eat and drink.<\/p>\n

Juttersmu-ZEE-um (kids tip!)<\/h2>\n

Great fun to do with the kids: the beachcombers\u2019 museum in Zandvoort. It has an offi cial name, Juttersmu-ZEE-um, and it\u2019s located beneath the semi-circle square with beautiful tiles that looks out over the sea. JuttersmuZEE-um is a small museum full of captivating beachcombing fi nds, from bottles with messages to bits and pieces of ships and airplanes.<\/p>\n

Zandvoorts Museum<\/h2>\n

The Zandvoorts Museum exhibits art, both modern and historical, and offers permanent and revolving exhibitions. There\u2019s always plenty of activity in the museum with guided tours and occasional workshops and lectures. This is complemented by the Museum Stage which provides a dynamic platform for poetry, theatre, music and dance. The museum also organises walks through Zandvoort\u2019s old centre.<\/p>\n

Grand Prix F1 circuit Zandvoort<\/h2>\n

They started constructing Zandvoort\u2019s racing circuit in the nineteen thirties. During World War II, mayor Van Alphen convinced the Germans that the circuit\u2019s wide lane would make an excellent parade ground after the war.<\/p>\n

The first official race on the circuit took place in 1948. Between 1952 and 1985, the races here were part of the official Formula 1 World Championships.<\/p>\n

The 1970\u2019s was a dark period witnessing many fatal accidents. In 1979 the local council took a decision unbelievable in the eyes of many: the circuit was closed down. The main arguments were the noise levels during Grand Prix races, the environmental damage and the traffic chaos the events caused. The last Grand Prix was held on 25 August 1985. Inspection in 1986 showed that the circuit had become obsolete and the organisation was in f inancial distress. The circuit was reduced in 1988 to become an interim circuit, staging only national car races.<\/p>\n

By the end of 2018 there were whispers Formula 1 racing might return to Zandvoort. The circuit\u2019s owner reached an agreement with the Formula 1 organisation in May 2019. From May 2020 onwards, the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Lecrlec will once again be competing on the Zandvoort circuit\u2019s tarmac.<\/p>\n

The last race on the F1 calendar is August 2026.<\/p>\n

Museums in Haarlem<\/h2>\n

Zandvoort is located near Haarlem, a city that also has a lot to offer. In Haarlem<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, you can visit the Teylers Museum, which is known for its extensive collection of art, science, and history. The Frans Hals Museum is also highly recommended, where you can admire beautiful paintings by the famous Dutch master Frans Hals.<\/p>\n
